An uphill walk to a deadly beauty spot
September 20, 2006 - When you are travelling on the N11 near Loughlinstown or on the DART between Killiney and Shankhill and you look to the west, you'll see on the slope of the nearest hill an intriguing edifice. It's not a monolithic monument, as many people assume, nor is it a part of a medieval stronghold, as others tend to think. This landmark is a chimney, built around 1800, as part of the Ballycorus smelting works and is regarded as a fine example of the Irish industrial heritage.
